earrings and a flower...a jet set ?

 What a cool site !
I have a pair of earrings - to me, highly unusual. They are thick discs that are very deeply carved, the edges of the carvings are gilded with gold, and then three slices of "jet" applied to the top. They are set in
metal.

Then I have a carved flower that came in no setting, so don't have the usual identification aids.

Any imput on either one of these would be oh-so appreciated - Thank You !

Victorian Jet Bead Necklace ?

Hello everyone, I wondered if someone out there could help identify this bead necklace.
It was sold to me as jet.

I struggled to properly do the hot needle test, but when I streak tested one of the beads, it
tested clearly dark brown - I compared this with the mark left by black bakelite - black.

The beads have carving similar to the beads on the Whitby Jet identification pages as being typical of
jet beads from the Victorian period (1860's?)
It is relatively light and not cold to the touch - so not French jet.

The necklace is long - 39 inches - 61 beads and the largest bead is 7/8 inch.
It's so wonderful I'm not sure it matters if it is not jet.... but it would be nice.

The other question I have is: if the necklace is jet, would it be Whitby jet ?

Hello. is this jet? Its has faint woodgrain patterns on areas of the base and is definitely not resin. It feels cold to the touch and has some age to it (I have
known it for about 35 years - i think it was originally bought in a box of junk from an auction)). It stands about 5 inches tall. Thanks - Jill

So good to find your site as I am really confused about this necklace. It lacks shine completely, it is very lightweight and feels warm, the streak test is a charcoal colour, the needle test reveals a sort of smoke smell - the beads remain undamaged whilst doing these tests. It is 48 long and has strange metal links and a crude clasp - some beads are pitted and have all sorts of imperfections. The metal work is rusty. Cannot seem to find out if it is old Whitby, you are the man!!!
